This was, without a doubt, the hardest I've ever laughed in a theatre.From the moment the show hadn't even officially begun (the casting/selection process is absolutely brilliant, so please throw yourself into it!) until the very end, I laughed more times than I could count. I even had to take off my glasses several times just to wipe away tears of laughter.The pacing is incredibly tight. Every scene flows seamlessly into the next, dissecting what initially seems like a very ordinary actor's private thoughts and ambitions, before unfolding into one, or perhaps several, wonderfully crafted stories. Yet despite its momentum, the show knows exactly when to let the audience breathe. Changes of scene, shifts in perspective, and switches between storylines create perfectly timed moments of relief without ever losing the rhythm.The script is remarkably clever. What first appears to be a hidden subplot about two sisters only fully revealed itself to me at the very end. In that moment, I realised that this quiet emotional thread had been the true heart of the production all along, gently supporting every burst of laughter. The way the play combines deliberately rough, exaggerated theatricality with such delicate emotional storytelling is genuinely moving. It is, above all, an incredibly sincere piece of theatre.The performances from all three actors deserve enormous praise. Their control, versatility, and effortless command of the stage completely draw the audience into every moment.As an East Asian audience member and a non-native English speaker, I found the experience especially fascinating. Not only could I appreciate the actors' exceptional vocal technique and beautifully distinct accents, but every line remained crystal clear and wonderfully accessible. There was something about the rhythm and clarity of the language that even carried a strangely familiar, almost Eastern poetic quality. It was a truly remarkable experience.My only regret is that I can't watch it again and again. If you have the chance, please see it more than once. As a Chinese Cantonese neurodivergent queer person, this show resonated with me on so many levels. Watching these stories unfold felt almost therapeutic. It's such a beautiful piece of work with strong East Asian and Cantonese coding throughout (if you know Cantonese, it’s 10 times funnier). A really inventive opening interaction that immediately draws the audience into the world of the piece. The story is engaging, thought-provoking, and deeply relatable, with so many emotions and details that really resonate. The three actresses are excellent, especially in the more emotionally intense moments, where their performances feel incredibly powerful. Highly, highly recommended. Super fun storyline and vivid characters, a fine balance of fun energy and deep feelings. It is a deeply moving story about sisterhood, hidden trauma, and healing. The coolest part? The three lead actresses randomly swap roles every show, yet they feel so perfectly matched with whichever character they get. Saw Hater at Camden today — incredible!! Great acting, sharp writing, nonstop laughs, and so much detail packed in. Finally saw Gawa perform live and I'm a fan for life.Bringing a friend to see it again! Highly recommend for Edinburgh this August~
